and her illness

Praying for eternal silence
or a florid nightmare pulse

Winter's opera house
is a post-mortem face
abloom with fairy tales

Singers unsatisfied
with a piano that chimes
in archaic color

and those who cannot help
but find pleasure at a time
when coroners appear.
